Results from the Oregon Pinot Noir Writing Contest
Remember back in May when I posted a story on a writing contest held by Willamette Vineyards? Well, I didn’t win the trip to Oregon. :o(
But…..I did sharpen my pencil and ….. I made the top 20!! Here is the link to the winning entry and the top 20. Below is a copy of my entry, which can also be found on the site (the third entry to the right).

Pleasanton, CAI’m tired of hearing “wine is simple”. It’s like saying snowflakes are simple. When examined closely, an intricate and elegant design appears, rewarding those that take the time to look closer. People that say “wine is simple” probably haven’t taken the time to examine the elegance of Oregon Pinot Noir. Oregon Pinot Noir craves food with equally complex and robust flavors. It takes thought to focus on the layers of aroma, the depth of flavor, and the lingering finish, but when you do, your senses are rewarded. When I have Oregon Pinot Noir, I know it’s far from simple.
Well, that was it. Obviously not brilliant enough for first, but hey, there’s always next year. I’m going to stock up on Oregon Pinot and drink it all year so as to be inspired. Actually, that could have a reverse effect causing me to become bored and tired of the same wine, killing any chance of creative writing, turning me into a recluse, doomed to drinking Franzia White Zin from a box because by that point, I have gone mad.
Update: I was just informed there were 25 entries. Dang.
j.k. 275 entries….

LOL, I knew someone what hit that topic. Of course, with Box ‘O’ Wine sales being up, maybe we shouldn’t knock it as much. Drinking from something called a “Bladder” may actually be fun. :o)

Jathan,
Each time that I recieve any kind of mass e-mail I erase it without one second of a glance to see what it’s about. Today, I was in a different mood, frankly not myself and I finally looked at one of your forwards. Thank you for forwarding this link, it’s brilliant. You are a genius…. but it’s your sister so that may not mean the same so much anymore.
I do have to say you are inspiring and motivating to me and I’m sure many more people.
Thanks Bud,
little sis
