WBW #12 Drink Local

by jatemack on August 12, 2005

Winery: Concannon
Wine: 2002 Petite Syrah, Livermore
Price: $15
Score: 87 JAT
Notes: A beautiful wine out of the bottle with a deep velvety purple color. This wine has a rich nose full of Raspberry, Earth, and Smoky Oak characteristics. On the palate this wine is full bodied and chewy with notes of Blackberry and Vanilla. The finish is O.K., but comes across a little hot and short. The bottle does open up with aeration as the tannins mellow a bit. Overall this is a good wine that would work great with smoked meats and rich sauce dishes.

I know, I know I forgot. I get so excited every time I see the Wine Blogging Wednesday Post, but I need to put a reminder in my Palm, as the date escapes from my memory somehow. Better late than never I guess. :o ) Technically this isn’t the closest Winery to my house, but they do buy grapes from vineyards that are right next to the winery closest to me, so I figured that was pretty close. Drinking Local is a great exercise for all wine drinkers, and more often than not, puts you in close contact with some awesome Winemakers and Vineyard Owners. Livermore isn’t the best wine growing region in my humble opinion, but there are some quality wines coming from this area, and the quality is continuing to improve. So get out there and drink local!
