Wine Blogging Spammers

I write this site because I love wine. I like to stay on top of the news and aside from Wine Business Online, there wasn’t a good place to get wine news unless subscribed to Wine Spectator or another paid site. So that’s my site, may not be fancy, may not have a lot of readers, but I’m sure the readers come here for one purpose, Wine News that’s worth reading.

Allow me to introduce you to the evil in the world. Head on over to Splogspot.com written by Kailash Nadh. This search engine only searches blogs that use spamming methods to drive traffic to their sites so the can get rich off of Ads on their bogus sites. I did a search for wine. One of the first ones to pop up is All-About-Wines an XML syndication site serving as a link farm to all the articles on Spittoon, and also to a site called all-about-wines.com. Each link has a different Keyword, then links to a lame page with ads for housing and a million Keywords in the ad like:

Southerm wine and spirits and details of wine recipe and napa wine tour . dandelion wine . Get info on dandeliom wine (white wine ) wine of the month is focused on iron and wine lyric products. wine picture is total wine . Get info on tital wine . Purchase port wine . More information on wine review wine country tour , wine counry tour , wine tote is the same as wine charm wine grape . Purchase napa wine tour etc.type of wine , napa valley wine train etc. napa vahwleie wine train and wine making kit wine makeyng kit and wine and spirit search. ice wine is required for food and wine magazine (wine shop) wine totes , wine chiller and california. how to make wine etc.napa valley wine tour . About homemade wine napa vahwley wine tour . Our website sells mexican wine cannot be meican wine (vintage) wine and roses , wine new york of wine glass rack topic. wine glasd rack and wine storage rack . What’s wine storag rack , french wine gift features. strawberry wine lyric .
napa valley wine train

Yes, this is a new low. I’m not blaming Andrew at Spittoon, the site may have hijacked his feed. The real retard can be found by simply doing a whois of the domain, revealing it’s this guy: Jason Graham

As you can see from the Splog search there are 5 other disgusting spam sites, and I’m sure there are more. (My comment section was spammed by some loser a while back.)

What can we do about it? Unfortunately, not much. But when you do a search for wine and notice the referring site is a Spamming site, like all-about-wines.com, internetwinepage.com, featureblog.com/blogs/wineblog, don’t click the link, you’ll just be hooking these jerks up with revenue.

I’m not out to get rich, famous, or make a name for myself in the wine industry. I just love wine and want to learn as much as I can about it. You probably didn’t find this blog by doing a search for a wine rating, which is great because those aren’t the types of hits I want on my site. If you like it, stay, read, syndicate it, sign up for email updates, or bookmark it, and check back when you want to see what’s new with the best drink on the planet.

Cheers,

Jathan

You seem like you have a lot of integrity. I’m glad I found your blog because it’s a fine example of how I envision ours shaping up at The Cave. There is a shortage of blogs covering the Wine BUSINESS and Wine industry news so this place is a breath of fresh air.

I’m am also sick and tired of the questionable tactics regularly employed by desparate out-of-work losers who spam the search engines with their useless fodder. As the marketer for a rare wine brokerage I am well aware than an entire sub-group/sub-culture exists around playing the search engines. The problem with this is ultimately, the human (whom the search engines are catering to) is the one who loses. Moreover, these practices are not sustainable for the perpetraters because they’re working AGAINST the search engine’s purposes….

Well, anyways, awesome, AWESOME blog. You can bet we’ll be back.

    Well said.
Fortunately there are a lot of talented people working for Google and the like, that are finding new ways to optimise our search experience. The more relevant the search terms, the more likely we are to use their search engine.

Thanks for the comments. Your blog is a welcome addition to the Wineblogosphere.
