WBW #15 250 Cases or Less

I love the theme provided by Gastronomie for today’s Wine Blog Wednesday. Picking a wine with less than 250 cases made is an intimate, great thing to do on a regular basis. These smaller producers are in touch with their vineyards and make the best possible wine given their production restrictions. My pick is the 2002 EII a red blend consisting of primarily Cabernet Sauvignon, with a little Merlot and Cabernet Franc, from Herb Lamb Vineyards. I think there are only 55 cases of this amazing wine produced. If you’re lucky enough to have a bottle, it’s the type you horde from your friends, (although Jennifer will encourage you not to do that), because of it’s elegance and refinement. However, there’s no pretense about this bottle as the label clearly shows. A wonderful wine with a great finish, this is one of my favorite bottles.

Vintage: 2002
Wine: EII
Winery: Herb Lamb Vineyards
Notes: A beautiful rich purple color, a great nose with hints of raspberry, Chocolate, Black Cherry, Anise and Leather, a wonderful mouthfeel that’s young and vibrant with immense structure, and a lingering finish that completes the wine with mineral, earth, and more Anise and Black Fruit. The mouthfeel is round and balanced, works well with cheese, food, or by itself. (notice cheese is in a seperate category than food..) :o)
Score: 95pts JAT
