Staying cool in a wine world of change

This is a great read from Jennifer Rosen exploring the place that staying up on the latest wine should have in your life. You don’t have to be a wine dork immersed in every aspect of the latest and greatest, but there are occasions when staying on top of some trends will prove to be useful and satisfying.
Rosen also rants on the ostentatious trophy wine practice that plagues so many wannabe oenophiles today, but calls knowing what wine to order at a restaurant a life skill. I must concur.

Don’t all men secretly want to be James Bond - dry of armpit and automatically wired into the latest trend? Don’t women, too, if they wouldn’t rather date him?

Obligatory Bond quote:
“The wine is quite excellent. Although for such a grand meal I would have expected a claret.”

So what’s in right now, if you want to look all 007?

What’s mega-cool: terroir wine. The kind that comes from a single, half-acre vineyard in Outer Blaphonia. Weeded, harvested, stomped and vinted by an old guy with calloused hands and the artistic sensibilities of a concert violinist. So in tune with the earth and the seasons is he that the grapes talk to him.
