Another thumbs up for Screwcaps

Tuesday, December 20th, 2005

Screwcaps are continuing to win the praise of industry professionals. The University of Aukland studied the fruit factors in Sauvignon Blanc from both screw capped bottles and bottles sealed with natural cork. The study found that two fruity elements common in the varietal were 23% higher in the Screw Capped bottles.
“In all cases, the opinions […]

A Glass is Worth a Thousand Words

Tuesday, December 20th, 2005

Peets Coffee and Tea, the Bay Area’s best coffee chain, has a new slogan for the holiday season: “A Cup is Worth a Thousand Words”. I personally feel that statement has more truth when applied to a glass of wine however. Yes people like to chat in the morning over a cup of coffee, but […]

I visited a New Zealand Pinot Noir in a previous installment of Wine Blog Wednesday, so it looks like I get to travel there again with the first installment of the popular virtual tasting event in 2006. The Cork Dork asks us to try some of the delicious reds coming from an area that has […]

Moving Mountains?

Friday, December 16th, 2005

It’s amazing what can be accomplished with a blog. Trader Joe’s has pulled Chiaro del Bastardo Italian white wine from it’s shelves based on a tip from a newspaper columnist who blogged about the experience (Sidenote: I was going to call this blog “uncorked” when I registered it, but the Chronicle, and a magazine, and […]

The under $30 category falls short sometimes because these bottles don’t always get the respect of their big (more expensive) brothers. Tainted with two much Sulfur, […]

With links to multiple photos on Flickr, this Wine Blogging Wednesday turned into a little art […]

New Zealand wineries facing drought

Wednesday, December 14th, 2005

As Summer in New Zealand quickly approaches, rain levels leading up to the season have been off by 50% in Marlborough on the South Island. This has led to decreased water levels in the lakes and reservoirs, causing hydro power plants to raise electricity prices.
Canterbury’s Rangitata and Waimakariri rivers haven’t been this low this early […]

Wednesday, December 14th, 2005

I received this email today revealing some cheap pricing on case orders of wine from Concannon. I’ve bought a few cases from them in the past, and these make great tweaner / bring to a gathering bottles. I’m pretty sure these discounts apply to anyone (US only maybe), as I’m not a club member.

Feeling the Love

Tuesday, December 13th, 2005

After a few days rubbing elbows with hoards of people at Disneyland this weekend, I was excited to get back to the solitude of my desk this morning. I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of wine related emails that had accumalated in my inbox over the past 4 days. Tom at Fermentations announcing a […]
