Thanks for your very informative site, beyond wine ratings. What concerns me about increasing technology for determining grape maturity and wine quality is it will become like medicine, reductionist. After all it is the way the components fit together in a holistic experience not simply the individual pieces. An interesting experiment would be to compare the wise winemaker and the machine - an impossible task but much more fun. I worked the 2004 harvest and it was most exciting to see how my palate got educatated to pick up nuances of maturity, beyond sugar, and now to taste the wines made from what my 'immature' tastabilities were able to detct. The experts know how to do it a lot better.
