Thanks Chris.

Makes me seriously question the critics that simply assign a point value to wine without accompanying notes. Who do these guys think they are?

I think, which in it self is an opinion. I think that to many of us who claim to be kind-of-a-sewers, we are the ones who rely too much on this point system. We are the ones whe ignore anything below 90 yet Parker himself says that a wine from 80-89 is a wine with no noticeable flaws. To me the fun comes from finding the wine great wine befor it rates. Afterwords it is simply a race to see who can find it for less. With as many wines that are out there with so many producers you do need some help, but when you find that wine that takes your breath away rating or not, that's when you really enjoy this gift. I also agree with Jathon that if you find a critic with a similar palet it helps, but do not ignore those comments that come with the rating the reason they tell you they are more important than the number is because they are. If I don't like cherries and chocolate then I don't care about 97 points. (I do like cherries and chocolate in case your selling that wine).

Pretty good post! Playing the point's game it's just plain stupid! There are some many valuable wines out there at bargain prices, one must trust its own tasting abilities.
